Hilla Rebay. Atelier Moly-Sabata.
Pochoir
# A-667

Three famous names in the early modern art world collaborated to create these rare and unique pochoir prints. Hilla Von Rebay (1890-1967) was a renowned Westport, Connecticut artist and cofounder of the Guggenheim Museum. Her work is presently being honored in exhibitions at the various Guggenhiem Museums around the world. Published by Solomon Guggenheim himself, and hand printed at the famous Atelier Moly-Sabata, in Sablons France with the collaboration of Albert Gleizes, they were designed to be a convergence beween representational and abstract art. Each pochoir was hand painted in all the fine details and signed in the plate. It is documented that only approximately 50 examples of each were ever made. Due to Hilla's growing role in the founding of the museum, her collecting and the onset of the Great Depression, they were never sold in her lifetime. The colors and condition have been exceptionally well preserved. Most of them are modelled after collages she did in the 1920's, hence their Art Deco flavor. Her biography, IN SEARCH OF THE SPIRIT IN ART, is available online.
